John Adams was famous as the second President of the United States of America and as one of the most influential Founding Fathers of the United States. The next US President was Thomas Jefferson.

    1735 Born on October 30 1735 in Braintree, Norfolk, Massachusetts. His father was a farmer.  
         
    1755 Adams graduated from Harvard College  
         
    1758 Studied law and admitted to the bar  
         
    1764 John Adams married Abigail Smith on  October 25, 1764.  They had 5 children. His son, John Quincy Adams, was destined to become the 6th President of America  
         
    1774 1774 to 1778 was a member of the Continental Congress  
         
    1775–83 The American Revolution, the American War of Independence, led by George Washington was fought between Great Britain and thirteen British colonies in North America, and ended in a global war between several European great powers.  
         
    1778 Commissioner to France  
         
    1780 Minister to the Netherlands  
         
    1785 Minister to England  
         
    1789 Vice President serving under George Washington from 1789 to 1797  
         
    1790 DC becomes capital on July 16, 1790  
         
    1797 He became the 2nd President of America. Age at Inauguration - 61 years old  
         
    1800 The White House became the president's home  
         
    1812 The War of 1812 which has also been called the second War for Independence, between the United States and Great Britain  
         
    1817 - 1818 The First Seminole War when American slave owners travelled to Spanish Florida in search of runaway African slaves and Seminole Indians who had been trading weapons with the British in the War of 1812.  
         
    1826 John Adams was 90 years old when he died of heart failure and pneumonia on July 4, 1826 in Quincy, Massachusetts. He was buried in the family crypt beneath the United First Parish Church.
